FAQ

Here you will find the answers to your most frequently asked questions about our ROQSTAR M12 Ethernet switches for public transport.

General Questions

Where are the ROQSTAR Ethernet switches produced?

All ROQSTAR Ethernet Switches are developed and produced in Germany. We attach great importance to a high degree of vertical integration. Therefore, development, procurement and production are united in our company in Reutlingen/Germany.

Where can I buy the products?

In short: directly from us.

At TRONTEQ, we follow the vertical sales structure approach. We are convinced that the best product can only be created through direct customer contact. That is why we deliberately refrain from using distributors. You can therefore purchase our products directly from us.

How can I buy the switches and what is the minimum order quantity?

We deliver from batch size 1. Send us your enquiry to sales@tronteq.com with a short description of your application and (if already familiar) your desired device. You will receive a response from us within 24 hours.

What are the usual delivery times?

We guarantee short delivery times. We deliver typical retrofit batch sizes of 1 to 300 units with a lead time of a few working days. When equipping new vehicles, we follow the delivery schedule of the vehicle manufacturer. Within a maximum of 12 weeks, we can deliver any number of units, whether 5,000 or 10,000.

Where can I find product downloads?

If you need product documentation, please visit our download area. There you will find manuals, drawings and product certifications.

Support and Warranty

What about product advice?

Forget about paid training and pseudo-certification! If you have questions about which features your vehicle network needs, contact our network experts directly.

Where do I get help?

For all product questions, please contact our support team at support@tronteq.com.

How long is the warranty?

The warranty for all ROQSTAR Ethernet switches is 5 years from the date of delivery.

What is the RMA process like?

Technical Questions

How are the switches configured?

The switches can be configured in different ways:

  • Web interface: Connect to the unit via web browser and configure via GUI.
  • USB interface: A configuration file is loaded from the USB stick into the device.
  • JSON API: Automatically load configuration files to the unit using Python.
  • Pre-configuration ex works: Load defined customer configuration ex works onto the machine.
Is there a tool to manage the switches?

Yes. This tool is very powerful, yet simple and free of charge. This is our JSON API, which makes it possible to configure the switches remotely or locally or to query diagnostic data in a modern way.

How do I perform a firmware update?

Basically, the following interfaces are available:

  • Locally via the USB interface
  • Remote via web interface
  • Remote via JSON API (Python automated)

A detailed description of the configuration options can be found in the user manual.

What accessories are offered?

We offer the following accessories:

  • Power supply cable
  • Ethernet cable
  • USB adapter
  • M12 protective caps
When does it make sense to use Gigabit switches?

Gigabit switches differ from Fast Ethernet switches by the 10-fold higher data transmission. They are particularly suitable as a data highway for applications with high data volumes. If several switches are wired in line in buses and trains, e.g. to collect video data, the use of Gigabit makes sense.

What is the Expandable concept?

Expandable switches initially function as pure unmanaged switches. Over time, the switches can be upgraded to managed switches via firmware upgrade. The upgrade is done via the already existing USB interface. However, the hardware does not have to be replaced. This avoids installation costs and protects the initial investment.

What are the advantages of PoE?

PoE stands for Power over Ethernet. This is a standard in network technology for data communication and power supply via the data cable. The end devices such as PoE cameras, people counting sensors and validators can thus be supplied without additional power supply units and power cables. The power supply unit is integrated in the switch and supplies the peripheral devices via a data cable.

How can PoE budgets be configured on managed switches?

The configuration allows a setting of PoE power per port in 2W steps. This enables efficient power reservation.

How is the PoE budget managed for unmanaged switches?

Budgeting is done exclusively on the basis of the PoE classes of the device connected to the switch. We recommend checking the PoE class of the PD device and its actual maximum power consumption in advance of each project.
