Having successfully designed, tested, and implemented a network infrastructure for buses and trains, we now look at a few typical cases that can arise during the operation of a vehicle.

When Changes to the IP Network of a Vehicle are Necessary
The vehicles are running regularly, carrying countless passengers every day, and all systems are working as expected. There is a constant exchange of data with the control center. But sooner or later it becomes necessary to make changes to the IP network. Usually for one of the following reasons:
- Expanding the network
Over time, the requirements for the system may change – for example, additional devices may need to be integrated. Before they can be installed in the vehicle, the network configuration must be adjusted. A common but outdated practice is to physically perform the configuration installation on site. You will learn how we solve this in a smart and contemporary way later in this article. - Replacing components
Be it due to a technical defect, accident or vandalism – in this case a device has to be replaced, but in such a way that the configuration of the defective device is transferred to the new one. As in the previous case, this is often done manually on site. - Enhancing function, closing security gaps
Again and again it becomes necessary to install software updates. This keeps systems up to date or closes security gaps. Here, too, the question arises as to how this can be done most easily?
Replacing and Configurating Devices During Operation – The TRONTEQ Way
As an Ethernet switch manufacturer with the sole focus on public transport, it is particularly important to us to create true added value for our customers with our products that goes beyond the usual. Thus, in addition to the physical special features, there are also further qualitative advantages for public transport companies through the use of our switches.
Importing software configurations remotely – this saves valuable resources. Remote access to the affected IP network is possible via an API interface. In practice, this allows software-based automation of configuration updates or software updates. Just ask us about it!
Device replacement without reconfiguration: If you replace a RQOSTAR device with a new one, you do not need to configure the new device manually thanks to our solution. ROQSTAR Ethernet switches save the configuration files of all devices in the network and can redistribute them as needed. In short: Connect the new device and you’re done. ROQSTAR takes care of the rest. This saves a lot of administration effort: of files, USB sticks and finally also personnel.
